1. Identity and contact details

WISE is the responsible party for personal information it determines the purpose and means of processing. The Information Officer function is exercised by the Chief Executive Officer or a duly authorised Information Officer.

2. Information collected and source

WISE may collect identity, contact, organisation, professional, application, enquiry and technical website information directly from you; from an organisation that lawfully nominates or refers you; from public records; or from authorised project partners. Research data is governed additionally by a study-specific participant notice.

3. Purpose and legal basis

Information is processed to respond to enquiries, develop proposals, deliver contracts and research projects, manage suppliers, recruitment and events, maintain records, meet legal obligations, protect systems and exercise legitimate organisational functions. Where required, WISE obtains consent. Providing mandatory information may be necessary to enter or perform a contract, evaluate an application, register for an event or comply with law. If it is not provided, WISE may be unable to complete the relevant request.

4. Recipients and transfers

Recipients may include authorised WISE personnel, clients where contractually and ethically permitted, project partners, professional advisers, regulators and contracted technology or research-service providers. Overseas processing will occur only subject to appropriate safeguards and POPIA requirements.

5. Retention

Records are retained for the period required by their purpose, contractual or research requirements and applicable law, and are then securely deleted, destroyed or de-identified.

6. Your rights

  • Ask whether WISE holds your personal information and request access.
  • Request correction, updating, deletion or destruction where legally justified.
  • Object to processing on permitted grounds or withdraw consent prospectively.
  • Complain to WISE or the Information Regulator.
  • Not be subjected to unlawful direct marketing or impermissible solely automated decisions.
